I read these books to my kids for a while, and they always loved them, so we started watching the tv show on Noggin. My kids still love them...I--on the other hand--am quite annoyed by Max and Ruby. Reasons follow:
1. Where are these kids parents? Are they alive? And if not, why hasn't social services scooped the up? Ruby is always at home with her little brother all by herself and I doubt if she's more than 7. Grandma stops by from time to time, but she's a little looney as well.
2. Why does Ruby have that annoying voice???? Who does she think she is, Max's mother? She is about as nagging as they come with that whiny nasal-y voice. Ugh!
3. Can Max not take a hint? I mean, how many times does Ruby have to say no to something before he gets the idea.
4. Why is Max always right? He's a little too annoying, and I don't want my kids to act like they should be annoying like him in order to get their own way.
5. Isn't Max around 3? Why does he only speak one word per episode? Over and over?
6. Why does Ruby have all these friends, and Max is stuck playing with Morris? Can the annoying big sister not find him some more friends?
7. Why does Max have all these cool toys and where can I find them?
8. Why does Mrs. Huffington trust these two to watch her baby?
9. Why is it alway summertime on Max and Ruby?
Ok, I feel better now.

We just recently started watching this show because we just got cable. They don't annoy me nearly as much as dora or diego. They go all over the country without parents!!! At least max and ruby usually stay at home. I actually think this show is quite adorable. And yes, I so want Max's toys!
I am looking forward to ditching cartoons for good. I have never liked cartoons, even when I was a kid.
Cassidy is starting to get interested in movies, so I'm pulling out all of Zac's old VHS Disney type movies. One 90 minute tape is perfect for the mornings. Then after naps she gets to watch Little Bear, which I absolutely adore, it was Zac's favorite.
OH I thought of another cartoon I like for Cassidy -- Mrs Spider's Sunny Patch Kids. Very cute.
Yes, I have similar questions!! But the kids LOVE it! ;-)
In my humble opinion, any show that tries to capture the beauty of reading to children fails. I hate Max and Ruby, Franklin and Clifford. I'd rather just read those wonderful books!

I'd rather have the books, and we definitely read lots of books. I'd much rather read Thomas and Friends than watch the show... so we do that!
Dani, I love little bear too!
Max and Ruby SERIOUSLY annoys me! Not only are their parents somehow missing, but their Grandma, (for some reason M%R's only family around.)
only shows up occasionally. Also, Ruby is WAY too much of a control freak to Max. Sure, Max is annoying, and can only speak one word per episode, but Ruby just tries to control him when Max is probably only like three. And if anyone's has a three year old, you know how hard it is to control them, and use logic with them. It's because they DON'T UNDERSTAND everything that adults, or even older children do! Ruby is NOT old enough to be watching Max 24/7, or even for a couple of hours, if you ask me. Also, how in the world did they get all the stuff, the house, and all of the strange toys if they don't have parents, or jobs? Does their Grandma give them money? I doubt it, seeing as she only comes over to prove Max right, and Ruby wrong, or to watch ridiculous plays/shows that Ruby and her friends have made.
And the last thing that bugs me is that every episode is basically about Ruby and Louise trying to do something, and having to push Max (and sometimes Morris,) out of their way, when usually Max was there FIRST. Anything else the episodes may be about usually evolves Ruby's bunny scout troop, and Max ALWAYS has to stop this, or don't do this.
I'm sorry to all of you who DO like the show, but I DO NOT AT ALL.
